Asthma/COPD Clinic

We aim to provide continued monitoring and care of asthma/COPD patients, and help them to improve self–management. Appointments are offered to all patients with asthma/COPD to attend for annual review with the practice nurse. Children with asthma are reviewed on a more regular basis depending on the severity of their asthma, appointments are given every three to six months. Where appropriate, respiratory tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis and continually monitor progress using computerised vitalographic equipment. Patients can have their peak flow and inhaler techniques reviewed and get up to date information about new medications. Patients are advised to bring all their medicines/inhalers and anything else that they use with them.

Blood Pressure Checks
Patients are advised to have their blood pressure checked every 3-5 years if they are under 60 years old and annually thereafter. If their GP has prescribed medication to control their blood pressure they will be advised to attend for more frequent monitoring. Routine blood pressure checks are carried out by our Health Care Assistants, appointments are available each morning (Mon-Fri) between 9am and 12.30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon 2.00–4.00pm.

Cervical Smears
All women between the ages of 25 and 49 should have a cervical smear test every three years. All women aged 50- 64 should have a cervical smear test every five years. Patients are notified by letter when their smear is due. Patients are advised to make an appointment to see the practice nurse about halfway between periods.

Child Health Development
The practice in conjunction with the Health Visitors undertakes the child health development checks. The clinic is held every Thursday 3.00pm to 4.30pm. At the first development check we arrange for the mum to have her post-natal check by the Doctor and the baby will receive their first immunization. Patients will be invited by letter to attend for the child development checks. All children under school age are enrolled to have regular reviews.

Childhood Immunisations
Childhood immunisations are given at 2, 3 and 4 months, to protect small babies from whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria, polio, HIB meningitis and meningococcal meningitis C. Booster immunization is also offered to pre-school and 15 year old children. The Immunisation Clinic is held every Tuesday between 2.00 and 4.00pm, patients will be invited by letter to attend. If, however, patients are unable to attend the clinic, an appointment can be made at any time with the practice nurse for the immunization to be carried out.

Diabetic Clinic
We aim to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications by providing regular check-up’s and education. Appointments will be offered to all patients with diabetes by letter for a six monthly check-up. There is also a follow-up clinic for patients who need to be seen more frequently. When attending  for a diabetes check, patients are requested to bring all medicines and records of finger prick and/or urine testing with them.
